November, 2007 News

I tried unsuccessfully to add a blog to the site. I know these add-ins are
supposed to be "idiot proof" nowadays, but there are some things I will never
be able to do!  So, I decided to just add update pages within the site.

The last six months have been rather hectic for us. We have sold our house,
moved into a house about half the size of our old house, sold and donated a
ton of stuff, traveled to Colorado to look at business for sale, went on a
Disney Cruise, and lots of other things too numerous to mention.  No wonder I
am perpetually tired these days!

Our dreams really started taking shape last April. Experiencing a frustrating
and more stressful-than-usual week at work, Rich came home one
Wednesday and stated "I know that we decided to move in a couple of years,
but I am finished; we have to do this NOW!

The next morning, I called a real estate agent friend of ours (
Sharon
Johnston; very nice woman - call her if you ever need a house in Cambridge!)
and asked her what we could get for our house. She stated she knew a
couple "who want a house just like ours."

Yeah, right: don't all agents say that to get you to list with them?

Anyway, she came over the next day (Friday) to check out the house, then
returned Sunday with the couple.  They actually wrote us an offer at our
kitchen table that morning!!!! (If this isn't a reason for you to read
The Secret
then you are definitely missing the boat!)

Keep in mind, the housing market had already slid dramatically in our rural
area, so if this wasn't placing our lives in the hands of fate, then I don't know
what is! After some haggling, we all agreed on a price.  Then we had to pack,
pitch, and donate.  I
decluttered without mercy.  My mom, a bona fide pack
rat, was beside herself with all the stuff we got rid of.  I just refused to move
and store stuff that neither had no meaning to us, nor was rarely used.

To make a long story longer, we decided to rent a house locally until we
figured out what we wanted to do when we grow up.  With the glut of new
homes, we were able to rent a new 4 bedroom home in our area so the girls
could have some continuity with their school, and Rich and I can continue to
work to save money for whatever we decide to do.

We  still want to get a cabin business one day, but figure this may be the best
time for us to travel with the kids.  Once they are in high school we want to
remain relatively stationary.
