February, 2008 News

Mother Nature is teasing us in Maryland this week with some warmer than average temperatures.
The Motor Home is in our driveway right now, awaiting our next trip.

Here's what we've been up to lately:

Camping:  We took the RV to Ski Liberty a couple of weeks ago, but a malfunctioning heater
forced us to spend the night in a Gettysburg Hotel. We were able to park the camper in the
parking lot and still used it at the ski resort the next day to save a bundle on food. Rich and I
even curled up and took an afternoon nap before more skiing that evening!

We were going again this past weekend (Feb 2), but the temperatures made it slushy for skiing,
so we are going to try
Whitetail Ski Resort next weekend (Feb 9).  We will stay at the
Jellystone Park in Hagerstown, MD. So stop by and say "hi" if you're in the area.

We made reservations for the
Harper's Ferry KOA for Memorial Day weekend and the
weekend before. If you stay the two weekends, you can leave your camper set up for the week at
no extra charge.

We can't wait for Spring Break at
The Fiesta Key KOA. Right now I am about desperate for
some warm temps and lots of sun and surf.

Downsizing:  Rich is working on getting rid of his tools. He has buyers lined up for almost his
entire wood shop. We may actually have so little in storage that we can store the remaining items
here and save the $75 per month on our storage facility. Not to mention, the money from the
tools will increase our thermometer even more!

Finances:  The savings thermometer hasn't budged a whole lot, but hopefully I'll be able to
push it up next month once we get our tax refund. We donated over $7,000 last year during our
big downsize! That's really helping our bottom line for the year!

We looked at another Class C while our camper was getting the heater fixed at Midway RV in
Salisbury, MD (very nice, family run operation). The
Gulfstream SuperNova is very nice, with
full-body paint, a full-wall slide (a slide the entire length of the RV), another bedroom slide with
king-sized bed and washer/dryer included.

Very nice, but our camper payment would more than double (we currently pay $400 per month). It
seems very frivolous, especially when sitting here writing about how we are trying to save money.
I told the salesman what we were willing to pay, but I don't think they can make it fly.

Oh well, we can certainly make do with the RV we have (which is still more than a lot of people
have, so we need to count our blessings!).  We tell ourselves that we will upgrade when we are
closer to hitting the road!
