Truck Campers (or slide-in campers) Of all the campers, I really think these are the best for getting around and spending time at really beautiful, out-of-the-way spots. When we go to Assateague Island State Park, these dot the beach where you cand find families stationed at their favorite surf fishing spot for the weekend. If we happened to hit the lottery (which won't ever happen because we never play the lottery!) We would have a motor home and a slide in truck camper. When we were in Colorado last year we would oogle at the campgrounds situated along the edge of perfect fly-fishing streams. The entryways to the camping areas were more like mountain goat paths down the side of the mountain. There is no way we would attempt to get down there with a motor home or trailer. However, a few hearty [crazy?] souls actually did such a thing and they have my utmost admiration. Newer models of slide-in campers have features like slide-outs, leather interiors, corian countertops, and full bathrooms. Of course, the MSRP on these models can run over $50,000. This is a very cool webpage on the Lance website about a couple who traveled South America in their truck camper for almost a year. |
