fifth wheel rv camper travels on mountain road
Class C Motor Homes
This a picture of the type of camper we have; a 2005 Fleetwood Tioga in
green.  However, ours does not have the rear slide.  Out of the three campers
we have owned, this is hands down our favorite!

The Class C Motor Home is an RV "house" on top of a truck frame, that
traditionally has a bunk area over the cab.

This particular Class C is on a Ford 450 chassis.  I don't mind driving our
motor home because when I sit in it, I feel like I'm driving my husband's old
F-250 pick-up truck (I just have to remember it's a lot bigger!).

This camper is great for a family on the road, because of all the space
available for sleeping.  We have a bed in the back, a futon-like sofa that
converts into a bed with a pull of a lever, a dinette that makes into a bed, and
the cab-over bunk that has slept 3 girls comfortably (with their head pointed
toward the front of the cab).

Some of the newer models have an entertainment center in place of the bunk,
which is great for a small family or couple to travel in.

The drawback to this unit is the lack of interior storage for long trips, and the
narrow hallway and bath area.  Our closet is only about 18" wide for all of our
clothes and shoes, and the cabinets are very small.  There are a lot of folks
that will argue that there is plenty of space for even a fulltiming family, but
compared to our old fifth-wheel, we do feel cramped.

We pull our jeep behind the RV with all four wheels down (called a Towed or
Toad vehicle). The motor home is very easy to maneuver in and out of
campsites and parking lots, and we can fit into many state park campgrounds.

Rich and I have discussed that this is the type of motor home we would like to
have when we are older and retired.
